I've written 48,897 words, putting me 1,103 words away from the required 50,000. That's about a hour's writing (or more, if I make the sentences coherent). I was tempted to wait until Tuesday night's Write-In to continue, so I could cross the finish line in the company of my other NaNo Novelists, but I'm not nearly done with the story, really. I'm just about to the end of Act III (out of IV), so there's probably another 7K - 10K words to go. Maybe more, if I don't edit out the swearing and graphic sex.
I (jokingly) suggested that I'd just quit now, which would be like a marathon runner giving up the race several hundred yards away from the finish line. Well, my beta-readers did NOT think that was a good idea. I really wouldn't do it. I'm enjoying the story quite a bit, it's been a blast to write, and I still have faith that I could get the finished product published.
So, I think I'll push on and cross the 50,000-word Finish Line. Then I'll complete the story over the next week or so, and let it sit for a few weeks. I'll start revisions in 2006, aiming to have it submission-ready by August.
So that's the scoop! As always, thanks for reading!
