Here's the Friday Five: Food!
#1. If you could have anything you wanted to eat for a day, what would you choose for your meals and snacks?
If I had a "Eat Anything You Want Without Undesired Ramifications" Day Pass, if I didn't spend the day at the all-you-can-eat sushi buffet, I might have a day of food like this:
Breakfast - So much to choose from! A huge stack of blueberry pancakes with real butter and maple syrup? Smoked salmon hash with poached eggs? I'd probably go with salmon Benedict with sides of fresh, ripe fruit; berries, peaches, pears, with whipped cream. And really good coffee, with cream, Bailey's and Kahlua.
Morning Snacks - English toffee and dark-chocolate-covered pretzels and chocolate-mint cookies. And a pitcher of Grasshoppers (the drink, not the insects).
Lunch - No question: Pizza. Inspired by the Spaghetti Already "Leonardo's" pizza, it would be a smoked chicken, artichoke hearts and green olives with an alfredo sauce. Rich and tasty. Followed by a big fresh-banana chocolate milkshake.
Afternoon Snacks - Ice cream. A plethora of flavors.
Dinner - Remember the green-chili enchiladas I brought to nmaki's potluck? A big tray of those, with cream in the sauce and extra cheese. With a bottomless pitcher of mango margaritas. Followed by a mocha cheesecake.
Evening Dessert - Fried bananas with rich vanilla ice cream. And more coffee drinks!
#2. Is there ever a dish/food or dessert you wanted to try but never had the opportunity, what is it?
When I was working in Anchorage, I had thought to sample game meats, like elk, moose or bear. It turns out that these aren't available at the grocery stores up there (I know, I was surprised too). I probably could have found a specialty store, or made friends with a hunter, but I never got my act together.
#3. What's a dish/food or dessert you've tried that you wish you hadn't?
The closest I've experienced to this would be having some eggplant dishes when I was young that I didn't care for, and now I have an aversion to eggplant. So I don't regret eating it, but I wish I hadn't been turned off to it.
#4. Ever watch cooking shows? (i.e. "Great Chefs," "Epicurious," etc.)
Julia Child's show was on the TV when I was growing up, so I remember seeing that many times. Not too many shows lately. A few episodes of "Iron Chef" (the original, not the American remake). I've seen the pilot for lenser's vegetarian cooking show, which hasn't ever made it to broadcast.
#5. Are you hungry yet?
Yes, but it is lunchtime....
