All things considered, I'd rather NOT be in Philadelphia...

Have you ever seen/read the play "All In The Timing"? One character is stuck in a "Philadelphia," a condition where one never gets what is asked for. He gets what he wants by asking for the opposite of what he really desires.

I'm not saying I'm stuck in that situation, but I do have a curious phenomenon to report. Apparently the way to get an IT job when one is unemployed is to set goals for writing projects. I did that in October, and I got work. I just set writing goals for 2005 and I got work.

I really didn't do anything else; didn't update my resume or peruse the help-wanteds. I met He Who Is Known As Tim for coffee, and he asked if he could present me to Client X (not their real name, obviously). I was fine with that, so a few hours later he called me. I start on Monday.

I'm not complaining per se, but there's a part of me that's thinking "but wait, I won't be able to spend the days writing!" (not that I do, but I could. Well, I actually had a really good time this afternoon writing next week's column, so I guess I do). The contract's for a month, with possibility of extension, so we'll just see what happens. I must admit that job-hunting is much better when there's someone doing the hunting for me...
