Hey, Mt. St. Helen's erupted! Well, it blew off a little steam, but the media has leapt upon it like very hungry predators upon, oh, some weaker, edible animal (sorry, my simile generator is broken). It reminds me of the "Winter Storm Watch" frenzy at the first hint of possible inclement weather, which usually leaves reporters standing in a drizzle saying "Well, there's only light rain and above-freezing temperatures RIGHT NOW, but this area could be hit by a HORRIBLE WINTER STORM AT ANY MINUTE!"

Not to make light of volcanoes. Still, there doesn't seem to be any evidence of a big, dangerous eruption like the one in 1980. Yet. Check back later, or turn on the Portland news to see reporters standing in front of a mountain saying "Well, there's only slight tremors RIGHT NOW…"
