Time Event
Weekend Socializing
Another cluster of social events! Dude Night on Friday. Saturday, I went to Andy & Bax, and bought a BDU* outfit in black and grays to dye purplish-blue for a Dr. Eldritch costume. I showed them to sanguinity and grrlpup when we met at Sound Grounds, and they both wondered about the effects of dyeing them in the washing machine. While there is some Amusement Factor in turning the household’s clothes to mottled purple, I really prefer to avoid that. I’m sure drarwenchicken and BILJ would, as well.

Saturday Afternoon, The Librarian and I went to see kr8vkat, Steinway and their new baby, C (well, he just turned 11 weeks old, so he’s not totally new). It was supposedly Fussy Time, but C was asleep when we arrived. The Librarian hadn’t seen their new house, so I tagged along on the tour, admired the improvements made since I was last there, and we all had a long, rambling conversation about a bunch of stuff (a lot of what we talked about was C, but that’s pretty common when someone has a new baby). Every time I visit with kr8vkat and Steinway, I wonder why I don’t do it more often**.

Afterward, The Librarian and I went to the new Thai restaurant in “downtown” Milwaukie. The food was quite tasty, and the company excellent (every time I visit with The Librarian, I wonder why I don’t do it more often***). We talked about many things; comics and bears and her upcoming Adventure At Sea. The Librarian wrapped up the evening with a story about her home being Invaded By a Rat that had such a perfect mix of danger, excitement, squickiness and Practical How-To Advice, there was no way I could top it without blatantly making something up****. It was a splendid conclusion to a very social day.

* Battle Dress Uniform.

** Then I remember that they were newlyweds, then bought a new house, then had a baby, and that makes for a pretty full schedule.

*** I have no good reason for why I don't.

**** Not that I have a problem with that.

Bears In The News
Anyway, while I hung out with sanguinity and grrlpup for a couple hours, we talked about all sorts of things, but most importantly; Bears In The News. Specifically, about the fact that a black bear was wandering around in a suburb of Vancouver, Washington (just across the river!), and some home videos taken by a family in Homer, Alaska, of a brown bear eating a moose it had just killed in their driveway. It’s getting harder and harder for the mainstream media to suppress the fact that BEARS WALK AMONG US! When I’m hiking, I’m constantly on the lookout for bears, but obviously, one should be alert at home! At work! At the mall! EVERYWHERE!

Handy Bear Identification Tips – Bears have:
• Four legs.
• Fur.

If you see any creature that matches this description, IT MIGHT BE A BEAR! * Remember, there’s safety in numbers, especially if the other people you’re with are older, weaker and/or slower than you. (Which is probably why sanguinity and grrlpup invite me to go hiking so often.)

* It’s true that not all animals that have four legs and fur are bears, but there are many other dangerous animals that fit this description as well, such as tigers, mountain lions, pika, marmots, and Gila Monsters.**

** Note: Technically, Gila Monsters do not have fur.

I’m Better, Thanks!

Yes, it’s been a while! Thanks to everyone who called, emailed, posted comments or sent text messages or IMs asking if I was okay; you two are obviously my True Friends.* I’m sorry there’s been such a lack lately of information on my thoughts, activities and details about What I Had For Breakfast. I have a number of posts partially written, ranging from the mundane to the profound. I'm going to compensate for my quiet period by trying to post those entries over the next week or so. Yes, they will be all out of order, but I'll put the dates on them. You can pretend it's all Artistic or something.

The good news is that New Seasons is carrying my favorite brand of chicken hot dogs! So I had wheat-free blueberry waffles and chicken hot dogs for breakfast this morning.

* I’m just kidding! There were actually three people.
