Nice Start to the Holiday Weekend

Tense and anxious. Is my aspect of weekday cheerfulness merely a shallow veneer, so easily crumpled into worry? I face a long list of Things To Do that were supposed to be completed earlier this week so I could focus this weekend on preparing to move. Yet my home feels unorganized and cluttered. Things underfoot, stuff stacked all over, action figures not put away...

sanguinity and grrlpup have volunteered to help this afternoon, but I don’t know where we’ll start. I know I need to rid myself of lots of “stuff,” the detritus of projects I’ll finish “later” and items that “will be useful one day.” Maybe we’ll begin with the storage space in the basement; much of what’s there has hardly been touched for two years. Prime targets for letting go.

Perhaps I just need food. Often things seem much better after lunch.

ETA: I was right. Lunch helped a lot. As you were....

Not So Bad, Really

Having grrlpup and sanguinity help me today made a big difference. I suspect they wanted to do more packing of things in boxes. Still, we went through the storage unit I have in the basement, and grouped things into categories: Goes Away, Keep, Keep But Sort Through. Of course, there was a bit of admiring of things, like the wedding photo album and the box of emergency supplies. The major benefit was psychological for me; I've started the process and it wasn't too bad. Then we went for gelato.

I worked on Monday's comic, until I realized that I needed sunglasses. Action-figure sunglasses, that is. I knew I had Professor Boffin's white ones, which weren't quite right, but to my delight, I found I had another pair. But they were Barbie Pink. So I added another title to my collection; Miniatures Painter. I pulled out the acrylics and made them into black-framed mirror shades. They came out all right, I think. Here's a picture:

I didn't think of Before and After photos, so you get only the results. You can see the paint, brush, magnifier (which is TREMENDOUSLY helpful) and the improvised holder. It was fun, but exacting. I don't think I'll do a lot of prop painting. But it's good to know I can.

Now it’s cool out, so I’m going grocery shopping. I didn't get as much done on assembling the comic as I had hoped, but it was still a very good day.
