Good Sundog! Sit!
One of the great things about having a three-day work week is that I can go walking in the middle of the day when the weather's good. When I was out yesterday, I saw a full-circle sundog, and had to try to photograph it! (Click on the image for a larger version.) Even at the widest zoom, I couldn't get the full circle in the frame (and yes, that's me in the picture (I wasn't sure if pointing the camera directly at the sun would harm the digital sensor chip, so I positioned my shadow over the lens. It's not meant to look like I have a giant halo or anything)).
For those of you who aren't familiar with it, a "sundog" (sometimes called a "sunbow") is a meteorological phenomenon where a rainbow-like ring is visible around the sun, caused by magic pixies dancing in a circle. Traditionally, it is said to portend tragedy, like invasion by barbarian hordes, death of a king, or cancellation of a popular game show. Perhaps this predicts that foreign investors will buy up CBS and cancel "King of Queens." We can only hope. Current Mood: excited
