I also spent time submitting my nominations for the Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards. It’s like the Academy Awards is for movies; nominations and votes are cast by people working in the industry, and the awards presentation will be watched by a billion people worldwide. Except that last part. Actually, their “Awards Ceremony” is kinda neat; they have webcomic artists create the presentations of awards, and it’s all put together on their website. You can check it out here (scroll to the bottom of each page for the link to the next page). Anyway, it made me realize how few webcomics I read, as last year’s awards had a bunch of comics I’d never even heard of. So I wasn’t able to nominate comics in every category. I suppose I could have just randomly written in stuff, but even though I’m mostly in it to promote my own work, I do take it seriously.
I did notice that none of the winners were photocomics. And none of the nominees. And none of the runner-ups. I know that my comic probably doesn’t have enough exposure to get enough nominations to be a contender, but even if I did, it may be like a comedy film trying to win the “Best Picture” Oscar. Perhaps they’ll one day have an “Outstanding Photocomic” category.
I did offer to be one of the presenter artists for the Awards Ceremony, so perhaps I’ll get to do that. I will, of course, let you know if anything comes of it!
